Start here: NCERT

Most NEET questions come from NCERT Class 11 and 12, almost word for word in Biology. Read them before any other book, and read them more than once.

NCERT Class 11 and 12

Physics, Chemistry, Biology · NCERT

The base for everything. Biology NCERT is the most important book for NEET. Get the 2023 or newer editions, which match the reduced syllabus.

Biology

Biology is half the paper (360 of 720 marks). NCERT plus lots of questions is enough for most students. Add one reference book only if NCERT feels thin.

Explains NCERT topics in more detail, with diagrams. Read it for chapters you find hard, not cover to cover.

Used: about ₹450 a volume

Physics

Physics is where most students lose marks. Understand the idea first, then practise numericals every day.

Physics

Concepts of Physics

Volumes 1 and 2 · H.C. Verma

Clear theory and good basic questions. Use it to understand a chapter, then move to NEET-style questions.

Used: about ₹450

Physics

Objective Physics for NEET

Volumes 1 and 2 · D.C. Pandey (Arihant)

Chapter-wise questions at NEET level, from easy to hard. A good first practice book.

Physics

Errorless Physics

Parts 1 and 2 · Universal

A very large question bank with solutions. Use it after D.C. Pandey if you want more practice.

Used: about ₹950 for both parts

Chemistry

Inorganic Chemistry is almost all NCERT. For Organic and Physical Chemistry, one practice book each is plenty.

Chemistry

Elementary Problems in Organic Chemistry

M.S. Chouhan

Organic reactions and mechanisms, chapter by chapter. Level 1 questions are enough for NEET.

Used: about ₹500

Chemistry

Physical Chemistry

N. Awasthi

Previous years’ papers

NEET repeats ideas, and sometimes whole questions. Solve every past question chapter by chapter, then full papers in the last few months.

Chapter-wise NEET solved papers

36 to 39 years · MTG, Arihant or Oswaal

All past NEET and AIPMT questions sorted by chapter, with solutions. Any one publisher is fine. Older editions are still useful.

Buying second-hand: what to check

  • Edition. For NCERT, get 2023 or newer. For practice books, an older edition is fine, but skip chapters that are no longer in the official NEET syllabus.
  • Answers written in. Pencil marks are fine. Answers filled in with pen make practice harder.
  • All volumes. Many of these books come in two parts. Check you are getting both.
  • Original copies only. Xerox copies, printouts and PDFs are not allowed on BookFlow.

Meet the seller in your city, check the book, then pay. Read our safety tips first.

Finished NEET? Juniors in your city are looking for exactly these books. Post them on BookFlow for free, with 0% commission, in about 2 minutes. Our guide on how to sell used books shows every step.

Questions

Is NCERT enough for NEET?

For Biology and Inorganic Chemistry, NCERT covers almost everything, if you know it very well. For Physics and the rest of Chemistry, you also need practice books and past papers.

Which is the best Physics book for NEET?

Start with NCERT and D.C. Pandey’s Objective Physics for NEET. Add H.C. Verma if you struggle with the theory, and Errorless if you want more questions.

Can I use old editions?

For practice books and past papers, yes. For NCERT, get 2023 or newer, because the syllabus was reduced and older books have chapters you do not need.

How many books do I need?

Fewer than you think. NCERT, one practice book per subject and past papers, done well, beat ten half-read books.

Where can I buy NEET books second-hand?

On BookFlow, from seniors in your city. Search for the book, chat or call the seller, and meet to check it before paying.
